  • The Fun Side of HR!

In my experience, team happiness spurs productivity and by making workplace a ‘happy and fun place’, you can take care of your team and encourage them to get more done.

Work and fun can and should be, mutually inclusive for the sustainable organizational growth. When work is fun, there is passion, creativity, innovation and growth. As an old saying goes, "if, you enjoy your work, work becomes fun".

Companies that are seen as ‘fun’ places to work at are often viewed and picked out as the best organizations to work with.

We, as HR professionals, can facilitate fun at work for a better employee and employer experience!

The HR Team can encourage bonding and building of team spirit through friendly game competitions between departments, wherein, maximum number of staffs can participate. Games such as inter-department football match, table tennis, volleyball, chess and badminton, are easy to organize, manage and offer a lot of fun for participants and audiences. Games not only drive away tension but also helps bonding between employees.

Outings are a great way to facilitate bonding between team members, reducing employee stress, and give them the chance to get to know one another outside of the office.

And, you know, they're really fun!

You can also organize team building activities, such as the "Family Fun Day "and "Picnic Programs", something that employees enjoy.

The festive seasons offer great opportunities to encourage employees and have fun, the office can be decorated with the festival theme, dash of color on the walls, lights, and greenery and fresh flowers at the entrance.

Additionally, giving a gift hamper, organizing fun games, like Secret Santa and adding special dessert in the cafeteria menu, will make employees feel they’re a company’s priority.

Trainings have a reputation for being boring. That’s because…well…they often are! But to give it a fun twist, we can organize "An Outdoor Training and Learning program" with learning activities which are interesting and motivating, packed with fun activities, this will succeed in engaging our employees and teaching them something new. Lessons learnt during fun games have a lasting impact on employees, they will talk about it and remember it for a long time.

Also, we can involve employees in the CSR activities to which the company is donating and supporting.  It is a great opportunity to   bring the employees together for the common good.  CSR activities affects employees' attachment to and the pride they have in their organization, and thus affects their work-related attitudes and behavior. Also, featuring your employees in photos of their contributions to your CSR efforts will boost morale and positivity in the workplace.

Most importantly, employees are happy to come to work in a space that is clean and comforting and perform better.

Fun at work enhances the employee experience. Key work factors such as morale, productivity, creativity get significant boosts when the ‘fun’ quotient is up. So, let us have fun at work – today, tomorrow, every day!
