Sales Manager

Job Description

Roles and Responsibilities: 

  • In consultation with the general manager, we can set discounts or promotions applicable. However, all changes should be sent to the director for approval.
  • Responsible for achieving all sales and collection targets.
  • The monthly targets are set by the general manager with consultation from the sales manager annually. These targets must have sales, collection, and new customer-developed targets.
  • He will work with the sales team. The team can be assigned job areas, region-wise or sector-wise, as may be suitable for the company.
  • He should ensure his team’s discipline. Ensure all team members are using the sales application; GPS must be on at all times, and lead by example.
  • He will be responsible for setting targets for his team members. He should ensure the targets are achievable and motivating.
  • At the beginning of each week, the salespersons must submit their activity report for the last week to the sales manager. This should contain details of customers visited, customer comments, total sales and collection achieved, names and contacts of new customers developed, and competitor activities.
  • At the same time, the salesperson must submit his activity plan for the coming week. This is to be approved by the sales manager.
  • To scrutinize and authorize all claims for travel and allowances for the salespersons and verify them as accurate.
  • He must accompany at least two salespeople on his weekly visits within one month. must have visited each of our customers at least once every 3 months.
  • Must physically visit and confirm the credibility of all new credit customers. He must confirm the credit amount and period allowed for each customer on the Account Opening Form (AOF). 
  • Must ensure that all customers are receiving their statements and that collections are made within the credit period.
  • Any customer who has defaulted on the stated credit period should be immediately brought to the attention of the general manager for further action. The customer must be visited and brought credit down as a corrective action.
  • All collections should be done by check, direct payment to the bank, or by Mpesa pay bill. No cash collections are allowed. Ensure the same. Any cash collected is a summary dismissal offense.
  • Should liaise with the dispatch manager daily about the situation of the vehicles and orders pending.
  • They must inform clients of any delays in the delivery of their products. Monitor effective customer service.
  • He or she must ensure that his or her department is maintaining copies of all correspondence sent and received, including letters and emails. The emails have to be filed with reference numbers and dates in an organized manner.
  • Must submit the monthly sales report to the general manager. This must contain the sales (region- and product-wise), collection (region-wise), customer visits made, as well as new customers developed, possible leads and projections, competitor activities, and comments for the coming month.
  • Must hold a sales meeting on a fortnightly basis to iron out all the problems faced and progress made on various issues for the month. The minutes of the meeting are to be forwarded to the general manager and directors.
  • Liaise with the production manager on projections and production plans.
  • Ensure the team is well-capable and trained in customer service.
  • Support Kaizen initiatives.
  • Ensure 5’s in the office and support Kaizen initiatives.
  • Respond to all internal audit queries and provide the requested information and clarifications on time.
  • Implementing agreed-upon action plans by due dates to remediate the audit findings
  • Any other duties that may be assigned by management from time to time.

Job Specification


  • Previous experience at the sales and marketing or management level is needed.
  • Problem solver with maturity and excellent management skills
  • Degree desirable.
  • Good working knowledge and experience in Excel, PowerPoint, Word, etc.
  • High attention to detail and excellent analytical skills.
  • Sound independent judgment and ability.
  • High levels of integrity and ethical standards.
