The Safety Officer is responsible for implementing and managing safety protocols and ensuring a safe working environment on construction sites. This role involves conducting safety inspections, facilitating training programs, and ensuring compliance with safety regulations to prevent accidents and injuries.
Key Responsibilities:
- Safety Compliance:
- Monitor and enforce compliance with safety regulations and standards on construction sites.
- Conduct regular safety audits and inspections to identify hazards and ensure corrective actions are taken.
- Safety Training:
- Develop and deliver safety training programs and orientations for new employees and subcontractors.
- Maintain up-to-date safety manuals and training materials.
- Incident Management:
- Investigate workplace accidents and incidents, documenting findings and recommending corrective actions.
- Ensure proper reporting of incidents to regulatory agencies and maintain accurate records.
- Safety Procedures:
- Develop and implement safety procedures and emergency response plans tailored to construction activities.
- Ensure all safety equipment and personal protective gear are available, maintained, and used correctly.
- Risk Assessment:
- Conduct risk assessments to identify potential safety hazards and recommend mitigation measures.
- Monitor and review safety performance and make recommendations for improvements.
- Regulatory Adherence:
- Stay informed about current safety regulations, standards, and industry best practices.
- Ensure that safety practices are updated in accordance with changes in regulations and industry standards.
- Collaboration:
- Work closely with project managers, construction workers, and other stakeholders to promote a culture of safety on site.
- Participate in safety meetings and collaborate with other departments to address safety concerns.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Basic Science, Arts, or a related field.
- Total experience of 3 years, with at least 1 year of relevant experience in safety management or a similar role in the construction industry.
- Knowledge of safety regulations, standards, and procedures.
- Strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Certification in occupational health and safety is a plus.
Preferred Skills:
- Experience in conducting safety training and emergency response planning.
- Familiarity with safety management systems and risk assessment tools.
Work Environment:
- The role involves working on construction sites and may require occasional travel to different project locations.
- Must be able to work in various weather conditions and adhere to safety protocols.
